Max Alper

Max Alper is a composer, educator, and music technologist based in New York. He holds an MFA in the Sonic Arts from the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College, where he studied under Morton Subotnick, David Grubbs, Marina Rosenfeld, and Ben Vida, amongst others. He is the founder and executive director of Klang Academy, a fully independent and non-profit conservatory and residency program for the sonic arts and sound studies, officially launching in Fall 2026. He is the co-host of the Critical Listening podcast with author and journalist Liz Pelly. He performs music under the moniker Peretsky and has released recordings through Soap Library, Whited Sepulchre Records, Deathbomb Arc, and through self-release.
