WORKSHOP: Art on the Digital Battlefield

As warfare becomes increasingly digitalised, art, music and cultural expression are being drawn into the battlefield in new ways. This interactive workshop with digital rights activist Brett Solomon will consider art, music, images and propaganda in conflict, and how platforms, algorithms, viral content and generative AI are transforming contemporary conflict. We will explore how TikTok and other privatised platforms have become contested spaces for expression, and what happens when art, music and cultural archives are censored, manipulated, blocked or erased. But the workshop will also turn the proposition around. How can art resist the logics of digital warfare, preserve cultural memory, create solidarity and open spaces for an alternative to conflict? Drawing on examples including the Kyiv Biennial in Warsaw, participants will consider how art, technology and music might help us imagine, and ultimately, build Digital Peace.
