Sarah Davachi performance is co-presented by MUTEK, with the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
Unsound will present Sarah Davachi, one of the world’s foremost avant-garde composers and the winner of the Venice Biennale’s 2026 Silver Lion. What makes her work so compelling is its extraordinary attention to detail: since her early releases, the Canadian artist and academic has drawn out rare intricacies and surprising textures from her instruments, working with analog synthesizers, organs, pianos and keyboards, while also composing for larger ensembles. On this year’s 3LP epic The Will of Tongues, she knits those various threads together, referencing early music, Arvo Pärt’s sacred minimalism and James Tenney’s bewitching temporal experimentation to draw attention to psychoacoustic phenomena, harmonic resonance, tuning and timbral space. Members of Kraków’s Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Ensemble will join Sarah on stage.
Last year, Unsound premiered an exclusive collaboration between Kelman Duran, Loraine James, Puce Mary and the Sinfonietta Cracovia. Commissioned by Warp and dubbed The Providenza Ensemble, the project continues in 2026 in a brand new formation. The 26-piece string ensemble Sinfonietta Cracovia returns, alongside Guatemalan cellist and vocalist Mabe Fratti, Danish-Scottish singer and composer Clarissa Connelly and mark william lewis, the British singer-songwriter who was the first artist to sign to A24 Music. Following a residency at Providenze in Pieve, France, each of the artists will create a new work for performance with the Sinfonietta.
