Sinfonietta Cracovia

Established in the early 90s, Sinfonietta Cracovia ranks among the leading Polish and European orchestras, operating under the patronage of the Mayor of Krakow.


The orchestra emerged from an initiative of young musicians at the Music Academy in Krakow. Thanks to the artistic leadership of violinist Robert Kabara, Sinfonietta Cracovia has grown and transformed into an ensemble renowned throughout Europe. Their artistic achievements have opened doors to collaboration with remarkable composers and conductors including Krzysztof Penderecki, Antoni Wit, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Christoph Eschenbach, Lorin Maazel, Valery Gergiev and American John Axelrod.

Sinfonietta Cracovia have also appeared at Unsound Festival many times, performing music with artists like Stars of The Lid, Jóhann Jóhannsson and others. At Krakow's Sacrum Profanum festival they have also performed special shows with the likes of Cinematic Orchestra and Mum.

At Krakow Unsound 2010 they presented "Music for SOLARIS" with Ben Frost and Daniel Bjarnason, including film manipulations by Brian Eno and Nick Robertson. This Unsound-commissioned piece will have its USA debut at the opening of Unsound Festival New York at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, along with work by Penderecki and Steve Reich curated by Sacrum Profanum festival.
 They will also perform works by Polish composer Henryk Gorecki at Judson Church, on a  bill with Deaf Center.
