Dawid Szczesny

Dawid Szczesny works with samples from tapes and vinyl, switching between turntables and his laptop, to create sound. His music is based on abstract ideas about the interaction of loops and other bits of sonic material.

He released his first solo album "Unheard Treats" in 2005 on the Mille Plateaux side label Supralinear. More recently, in 2008, Madison WI based Porter Records have released two recordings from Dawid - "Luxated Symmetry" and "The In Between EP." Reviewing "Luxated Symmetry" The Wire magazine said "follows a willful, crazy-paving path of skewed internal logic, his assembled pieces sounding loose but probing: his angular musical excursions filled in with endlessly shifting details which fit into his overall sound. Sampling and reshaping acoustic material isn¹t in itself anything new, but Szczesny doesn't fit too neatly into any kind of lineage: there is little evidence of an arch sensibility in his work, even when it comes to represent a synthesized conflation of Improv-style tics and experimental jazz-styled structures. With such a strong emphasis on constant movement and atonal percussion patterns, there's thankfully little room for pastiche, or overt referencing of past styles"

His most recent recording was a collaborative effort with drummer Rafal Gorzycki and vocalist Krzysztof Nowinski called "Trio Poems" released in 2009 by Polish label Mototype. He has also collaborated with Ignaz Schick (Berlin), Sofie Loizou (Australia), and Shadow Huntaz member MC Non for a release on Plug Research.

At Unsound Festival New York, he will collaborate with the NY duo MERCE.
