The second wave of Unsound Festival New York 2012 artists has been released, rounding out the program, to be presented between 18-22 April.
New additions include Monolake Live, 2562 Live, Black Rain, Distal, Laurel Halo, Julia Holter, Jenny Hval, Inner Tube (a collaboration between Mark McGuire of Emeralds and Spencer Clark), LXMP, Julia Kent, Kotra, Maria Minerva, Nguzunguzu, Peaking Lights, Sepalcure Live A/V set and Throwing Snow.
The first details of Unsound LABS have also emerged. The music part of the LABS program brings together artists from different parts of the world, creating unique contexts for performances. The results of these pairings will be presented during daytime weekend concerts at ISSUE Project Room in Brooklyn.
The LABS program will also feature talks, presentations, workshops and discussions. Already confirmed is Dave Tompkins giving a talk entitled "Sustained Decay: A Natural History of Bass in Miami," a presentation by Jeremy Grimshaw on "The Music and Mysticism of La Monte Young" and a screening and discussion of "Icon Eye," documenting the time Cameron Stallones (aka Sun Araw) and M. Geddes Gengras spent in Jamaica collaborating with dub reggae group The Congos.
We are running an Unsound LABS Kickstarter campaign in an effort to extend this part of the program in New York and beyond. You can support by heading to the Kickstarter website.
Unsound Festival New York takes place at various venues including BAMcinématek, (Le) Poisson Rouge, The Bunker, David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center and ISSUE Project Room.
