WORKSHOP: Sampling Warsaw

Within even the most dense and noise polluted urban environments lies a soft sonic intimacy worth exploring.

This workshop with musician and educator Max Alper (aka Peretsky) and sound artist Edka Jarząb tasks participants to engage in a combined practice of both field recording and sample pack making in the city of Warsaw. Participants are encouraged to bring both their own field recording tools, such as recording devices, mobile phones, microphones, and headphones, as well as day-to-day sound objects, including plastic wrap, pebbles, material fabrics, dirt, and even musical instruments, for the sake of capturing their sounds as a group in both outdoor and indoor recording environments. At the end of the workshop, the facilitators will collect the sounds from participants for mixing and mastering to be exported as a professional quality and communally made sample pack. Unsound will make this sample pack available free of charge to the general public, allowing anyone in the world to tap into the daily sounds of Warsaw to create their own works of sonic art.
