2562

Dutchman Dave Huismans aka 2562 - the number referring to his former zip code in The Hague - is on a journey. Having played an early pioneering role in bridging the gap between house/techno and cutting edge ‘bass music’, his passion to keep reinventing himself is pretty much the only constant factor in his music, eschewing trend-hopping and safe-playing in favour of an innovative and personal handwriting like few others on the scene. Most recently his third long-player as 2562, Fever released last year, and currently showing up in many best-of-2011 lists, offered an extreme reworking of late seventies disco and early eighties boogie into something genuinely new: heavy on sound-shaping and beat-freakery, but more importantly straight from the soul. It marked the launch of his new When In Doubt imprint, a platform for his own future endeavours and whatever other honest, formula-free music he decides to release.

Previous 2562 releases include a string of highly influential EPs and full lengths on Bristol stronghold Tectonic Recordings and fellow Dutchman Martyn’s 3024 imprint. Huismans has also recorded freak-techno and oddball club tracks under the name A Made Up Sound since 2005, releasing a string of sought after singles on esteemed house and techno labels like Philpot, Subsolo and Clone, most recently followed by all-out stompers like Rear Window’on Delsin and Take The Plunge on his own A Made Up Sound label series.

Anyone who has experienced 2562 live or as a DJ knows the same open minded approach applies to his live set and DJ sets, effortlessly mixing up good music period, as long as it’s got the funk. He’s a regular at high profile EU / UK venues such as Fabric in London and Panoramabar/Berghain in Berlin and has toured among others Japan and North America several times, including highlights such as Metamorphose Festival, Unsound New York and the Vancouver Winter Olympics. For Bass Mutations, Huismans takes things to a new level with this first-ever live show in the US.
