Throwing Snow

London based migrant Ross Tones makes music under the ever so pertinent moniker Throwing Snow. Drawing influences from a vast array of genres encompassing Dubstep, UK Funky, House and Post-Rock, his productions have a consistent comforting warmth and glistening coldness.

Following two digital singles, one on his own A Future Without label in 2007 and another on Dusted Wax Kingdom in 2008, Throwing Snow made his compelling vinyl debut Un Vingt / Cronos on Alex Nut’s Ho Tep in mid-2010 and has since been in hot demand for remixes reworking tracks from the likes of Gold Panda, Kidkanevil, Cloud, Greymatter, Eskmo, Lula Côrtes e Zé Ramalho Radio, Photomachine and he's just released a mix for Jamie Grind this February.

He's also received consistent support from some of the UK's top radio show players including Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Sinden, Kiss FM and Ministry of Sound.

2011 saw Tones inaugurate two new labels, the dance floor focused Left Blank and Snow Fall. In April 2011 he released a remixes of Un Vingt / Cronos on Snow Fall. While Left Blank released three EPs last year from rising talent like Vessel (now signed to Triangle), Visionist (2012 artist to watch in K Mag), Lorca and El Kid. Left Bank is releasing a EP from a young Russian producer Myown this March. Artists like SBTRKT have been supporting the labels releases in their DJ sets.  Of course his digital label A Future Without is also still heavily active too releasing indie rock, jazz, dub and electronic projects including most recently a December jazz album from the Lund Quartet and a indie rock EP from Memotone. Though all of these labels are promoted individually it's clear when you look across their output that Tones is a bold curator. Increasingly others are picking up on this and his own music.

As Throwing Snow he also released a collaboration with Py last August, a single Shadower on Sneaker Social Club in September and a new EP (with a mix CD) in December called Too Polite on Local Action which was described by Resident Advisor quite simply as "Bas ass stuff."
