Bristol’s Emptyset are James Ginzberg and Paul Purgas, whose music has been described as “techno meets dubstep folded back onto techno again”. Their recent LP on Subtext, “Medium”, is captivating and intense as well as unsettling. Recorded in an abandoned Victorian mansion, this “hulking juggernaut of an album, one whose power is sensed rather than seen” (Dummy magazine) can be described as a successful attempt to translate architecture into sound.
