Mala In Cuba

Mala is one half of the influential dubstep production duo Digital Mystikz, praised by John Peel and responsible for the legendary DMZ.

In April 2011 Mala travelled to Cuba with Gilles Peterson, who was returning to Havana to produce the second instalment in the "Havana Cultura" series. As a result, Mala recorded a new album, to be released in September on Brownswood. Gilles Peterson himself has described it as "the record that reevaluates and realigns the dubstep movement within sound system culture."

The BBC has written of the album: "Heavy as the rhythms are, Mala’s deftness of touch means the Cuban contributions are never entirely overwhelmed, and when he pulls more elements into the mix the results are often stunning."

To present the project at Unsound 2012, Mala will appear on stage with four musicians.
